Compounding firm Plastics Color Corp. is venturing into thermoset molding compounds for the first time.

Calumet City, Ill.-based PCC is making the move by working with thermoset supplier Raschig GmbH of Ludwigshafen, Germany. Both PCC and Raschig are owned by industrial conglomerate PMC Global Inc. of Sun Valley, Calif.

The PCC-Raschig arrangement will include cross-distribution of each other’s products, PCC officials said in a recent news release.

“The expanded relationship between PCC and Raschig will help both our companies better serve our customers by offering a more complete line of polymer products for a wider variety of manufacturing needs and markets,” business development vice president Timothy Workman said in the release.

“Raschig’s expertise and market experience really complement ours, and vice versa,” he added.

Raschig’s thermoset portfolio includes melamine, epoxy and polyester. The 122-year-old firm operates two plants in Germany and one in the Netherlands.

PCC employs about 130 at three plants in the U.S. and one in China. Earlier this year, the firm opened a new color-selection web portal and entered the anti-counterfeiting market with a new line of particle taggants.
